Questions

How do I crop for an ID photo?

Choose 35:45, drag the picture so the head sits in the frame with space above it, and save. Then use the resize tool or a photo requirement preset to set the exact pixels and file size.

Can I crop freely without a ratio?

Choose 'Original' to keep the photo's own shape, or any of the fixed ratios. Free-form dragging of the frame edges is not supported yet; zoom and move the picture instead.

Does the crop lose quality?

Only the usual re-encode: the cropped pixels are saved at the quality you set, 92 by default, which is visually identical.

Why does my phone photo appear rotated?

It should not: the tool applies the camera's orientation tag before showing the picture. If it still looks wrong, use the rotate tool first.
