Compress images

Pick a quality, drop your files, download them smaller. JPG, PNG and WebP, as many as you like, without uploading anything.

or drop images hereJPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more. Nothing is uploaded. You can also paste a screenshot.

How it works

  1. Set the quality. Eighty is the sweet spot for photos; ninety for screenshots with text.
  2. Optionally limit the longest side, which saves far more than quality alone on camera-sized photos.
  3. Drop the images. Each row shows the original and the result, with the saving in percent.
  4. Download one file, or all of them as a ZIP.

When quality is not enough

File size follows pixel count. A 4000-pixel photo at quality 60 is often larger than a 1600-pixel version at quality 85, and the smaller one looks better. If a destination has a hard limit in kilobytes, the fit-to-size tool searches for the right quality and size automatically.

Questions

How much smaller will my images get?

Photos straight from a phone usually shrink by 70 to 90 percent at quality 80 with no visible change. Already-compressed web images shrink less. Each row shows the real before and after size.

Why does my PNG come out as WebP?

Re-saving a PNG as PNG cannot make it smaller in a browser, so the Auto setting writes WebP, which keeps transparency and is usually a quarter of the size. Pick PNG in the format list to keep the format, or JPG for the smallest file without transparency.

Is there a limit on how many files I can compress?

No. Drop a folder's worth; they are processed one after another on your device and downloaded as a single ZIP.

Does compressing remove the location data from my photos?

Yes. The browser writes a fresh file without the camera's EXIF block, which is where GPS coordinates live. The image is rotated upright first, so nothing is lost by dropping the orientation tag.
