Why convert PNG to JPG

Screenshots, exports from design tools and scans often arrive as PNG, which keeps every pixel exactly but makes a photo-like image three to ten times larger than it needs to be. Converting to JPG is the usual fix when a form says 'JPG only' or a listing refuses the file size.

What changes in the file

JPG cannot store transparency, so any see-through area is flattened onto white. Text and flat graphics can pick up faint halos at low quality; keep quality at 85 or above for screenshots with text, and lower it for photographs.

Questions

Will my transparent background turn black?

No. The tool flattens transparency onto white before saving the JPG. If you need another colour, set it in the options.

Which quality should I pick?

Ninety for anything with text or sharp lines, 75 to 85 for photos. Below 60 the savings are small and the artefacts are visible.

Can I convert many PNGs at once?
