Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?

On Safari and on most recent Chrome and Edge versions, yes: drop the HEIC and choose JPG. If your browser cannot decode HEIC the row shows an error, and the Photos app on the phone can export a JPG instead.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose, white by default.

Which quality should I use?

Ninety for anything with text or sharp lines, 80 to 85 for photos. PNG has no quality setting.

Is the conversion done on a server?

No. The browser decodes and re-encodes the image on your device; nothing is uploaded.
